This Snake Oil Salesman
calls himself
a Medicine Man, but
he’s nothing more or less
than a pitchman, a peddler –
panderer of potions,
poppycock and oily notions.
His traveling wagon reeks
of ‘praise me, please’;
he seeks
applause, approval
and hearty hallelujahs
at every well-planned
pause
while thrusting us
ever deeper
into the morass
with his misbehavior.
He steals us blind
then sells eyeglasses
to those masses
who still proclaim him
‘Savior’.
