Winter Solstice Awakening

Winter Solstice Awakening

Even as the tipped earth
slips into grim winter
her sleeping soul startles
sensing the subtle shift,
this first sweet stitch
in Spring’s
finespun tapestry.

pumpkin haiku - Nov PAD day 30

Pumpkin’s on back porch
making space for new décor.
Lights and tinsel reign.

It’s Catching (On) - - Nov PAD day 29

It’s Catching (On)

Stop this cough, sneeze, sniffle,
wheeze, snuffle, spew
of cold words over everyone.
Cease the spread of heated hearsay,
transmission of infectious fever,
epidemic of vitriol over all
within reach of your virulent,
virtual voice.

Rather, offer up a muffler
to keep the wintry chill at bay,
umbrella, raincoat and rubbers
against the frigid, bitter squalls.
Let’s infect everyone instead,
with a contagious case of
the most communicable
kindness.

I Want a Mulligan - Nov PAD day 28

I Want a Mulligan

I don’t care what you “winners” say.
It’s not supposed to end
this way.
The “villain” shouldn’t
get away
with everything
(he surely will).
It made you sing.
(It makes me ill.)

I want a do-over.
Let’s take two.
(I’m sure that that’s alright
with you?)
Just one more chance
to get it right,
before we say,
“That’s all,
good night!”
