Last Cupcake (2016 April PAD - Day 13)

Last Cupcake

He always called me
his cupcake –
his favorite sweet thing
in the entire world.
And that man
loved his sweets.

It wasn’t until
after the wedding
I found out
I wasn’t
his first cupcake –
or his second,
for that matter.
Hell, I still wasn’t
his only cupcake.
And that man
loved his sweets.

But my Glock and me
we made sure
(pretty damn fast)
I was his last.

Inexplicable (2016 April PAD - Day 12)

Inexplicable

She
was serious as the grave –
her fancy never tickled,
never blitzed (nor
bombed or pickled);
severe, unsmiling, grim,
not ever (even once)
given to whim.

He
was nutty as a fruitcake –
wholly daft (and only half-baked),
comical, absurd,
feather-brained (or bird-)
pixilated, whimsical,
goofy, giddy, giggly and
completely eyebrow-wiggly.

A ridiculous blind date
set up by friends –
a joke, a gaffe;
but they (yin and yang)
had the last laugh:
so totally contrary
fifty years later,
still happily married.

Storming The Keep (2016 April PAD - Day 11)

Storming The Keep

brick by brick
she built her citadel –
defenses strong,
(turrets, towers,
curtain wall)

impassable,
(gatehouse,
drawbridge, moat)

impenetrable
(palisade, portcullis
crenellations); she’d

believed
she was
unapproachable,
un-encroach-able,
impervious,
impregnable

and yet…

Anger… (2016 April PAD - Day 10)

Anger…

… just because it’s easy
to incite
doesn’t make it right.

No matter who
(or where) you are,
instinctual
“fight or flight”
will only get you
so far.

Such
mere vitriolic
hatred
isn’t nearly
quite enough.

In the end,
our perseverance
must depend
on tougher stuff.

In this world of
raging anger
(where the raving
think they’re sane)

empathy, love,
kindness, compassion –
these are the weapons
that make us
human(e).
