Mystic Memories

Close eyes, inhale and suddenly
forty-plus years slip
away
We two cousins,
best barefoot friends, spend
Saturdays & Sundays like they were pennies
and our pockets were full, over-
flowing with light, laughter,
sand, sea, salt spray,
sunshine and
Time
has no meaning or consequence
our days filled with monumental,
inconsequential things:
crabs, snails, jellyfish,
counting cars in passing trains,
repetitious rise and fall of drawbridge and
tides
We stroll the shore in sun suits
scrutinizing the sand seeking unbroken shells,
souvenirs of sweet, simple, unscheduled moments
both of us oblivious to booze and bickering
safe, sheltered, tranquil, together,
harbored in mystical
magic

  1. Beautiful! Like the "best barefoot friends" and the details like shells on the shore. Cousins are a special relationship & you have captured that magic of growing up with cousins.:)
