A tribute inspired by
(and including song titles from)
Dan Fogelberg
(8/13/1951 – 12/16/2007)
Hearts and Crafts
Like Icarus ascending,
the higher you
climb
the more you are
lost in the sun.
You’re wishing
on the moon and stars, but
it’s too soon to
be on your way,
there’s no reason
to run.
Someone’s been
telling you stories
of stolen
moments in heart hotels,
ghosts and exiles
in empty cages –
all just souvenirs
of hearts in decline.
This need not be our last farewell.
Trust in the
morning sky. Down the road
wisteria whispers in the wind
and promises
made
in the innocent
age
are still within
the reach
of this heart.

Inspiration comes from so many places!
ReplyDeleteFogelberg had a lot of good songs. I like the one "Same Old Lang Syne", especially.
It certainly does! Thanks for stopping by, Patricia! He did have SO many wonderful songs! It was hard to choose... :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, goodness. This is gorgeously woven, my friend. So much subtle internal rhyme to love, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, De! What a lovely compliment! "Woven", yes, that's what this assignment entailed. Taking the wonderful words of another poet/song writer, and weaving them into a different form. :-)
DeleteHi Pam! Thank you for the visit and for these beautiful words! I am a huge fan of Dan, he would have loved this. Especially nlove those wisteria whispers...my floral favoritism is showing ;-)
ReplyDeleteAwww, thanks, Sara! Glad you enjoyed! Flowers AND Fogelberg -- You have excellent taste! ;-)
