NOV PAD - Day 6 - All Hallows Even

photo by PSC/2013

All Hallows Even

Halfway to winter, well into autumn,

preparing for seasonable slumber, I am

tucked away beneath several layers,

wanting only to be undisturbed.

A grumbling stomach

sends me foraging for food –

a night like any other, I think –

only the mood is somewhat
skewed.

My stomping ground, normally so peaceful, placid –

teems with people tonight – my plundering interrupted

by thunderous skipping, jumping, laughter, shrieking;

feet shuffle, scuffle, leaves and bags rustle,

doors open & close, lights flash,

vehicles roll slowly past.

Curious scent of sweets, chocolate breezes, tempt

but something tells me to steer clear of the street;

I lumber away, skulk back to my lair,

hunger lingering,
still
