Befriended (2015 APR PAD - Day 22)

photos by PSC / 2015

“Earth laughs in flowers.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Befriended

Wandering a new neighborhood,

unfamiliar woods, I’m searching

for old friends, expecting only

disappointment.  Surplus

of skunk cabbage greets me,

surfeit of fine green ferns, but

blossoms are what I’m seeking and

they are patently absent. Knowing

my old haunt is surely sprouting

flowers in a variety of shades today

(reds, yellows, purples, pale lavenders)

leaves me feeling friendless

in this foreign place, until

a population of peepers

begins trilling a familiar tune.

Without further warning,

I’m tripping over a patch

of friendly yellow flowers –

tiny little trout lilies

swimming in these woods

and I am welcomed.

    1. Well now. This certainly didn't work. Those are 3 hearts, and I'm Marie Elena. Love this old classic, and glad you shared it again, PSC!
