Goodbye Geese (2015 APR PAD - Day 4)

“Death ends a life, not a relationship.”
Mitch Albom, Tuesdays with Morrie

“Things we lose have a way of coming back to us in the end, if not always in the way we expect.”
J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Goodbye Geese

He’d kill them all

if only he could.  (Insists:

they’re just plain no damn good!)

Abhors their ‘leavings’

on the lawn; (wants them

only wholly gone.)

He loathes their horrible honking din.

(Please, don’t label it ‘singing’.)

And those graceful necks

some find so fine?

(Perfectly formed…

for wringing.)

But let me tell you, here’s the thing:

he also despises their wee offspring.

He stalks the house from room to room,

making vows of gloom and doom

to any goose who dares alight

upon his pond – by day or night.

Just let them nibble on his grass,

he promises to shoot their ass!

He’d gladly dispatch every last one

to the afterlife with pride.

And I often ponder this idea –

(‘though I don’t like to deride.)

Still, I muse upon their greeting

when they meet

(on the other side).
