Battle Hymn
He was wholly combative,
all dispute and demand,
commanding complete surrender –
with no hope of concession,
compromise, or truce.
Every little thing
became an ongoing battle
(of wits, wills and words)
until one day (she heard)
he’d called her water
under the bridge and
suddenly she was
so over the
dam(n), she declared
her independence,
disengaged and
walked away
(singing)
