Dicentra
spectabilis
Her heart bleeds
for the children
whose lives are
cut short
for the parents
who lost them,
and the ones
who still will
for the families
who fear for
their lives
and their homes
who have nowhere
to run
and no one
willing
to take them in
for the ones
who are
different
bullied,
badgered, beaten,
and treated as
less
by their peers
and the law
for those
whose voices
linger
unheard,
ignored,
unheeded,
disbelieved
despite the
truth
of their words
May she ever
endure
may she rise
and bloom still
persisting
so long as she
can
so she will
