LET'S PLANT FLOWERS

Let’s Plant Flowers

This solitary grave, untended
windblown, no name, unknown –
a number only, looking so
lonely, settled in beside our family
a stranger? or a relative perhaps?
or maybe a friend, too far from home
new country, no money, all alone
no one here to mourn, nor a single
flower to decorate, and yet
here we are, and
we have extra

  1. This is so sad, but it's very thoughtful of you to place your extra flowers there. When a friend of mine died (suicide), her husband didn't have any kind of headstone made and I couldn't stand it. So my husband and I got one for her.

  2. Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Laurie -- and what a sweet gesture, getting a headstone for your friend! It IS sad, and hits close to home for me -- from both sides. One the one hand, there are "unknowns" nearby our family that I plant flowers for sometimes; on the other hand, we have family members, buried a generation or two before, without any headstone, that we have been unable to locate. I like to image someone pausing to notice and decorate there too. :-]
