Turtles
Don’t you witness with envy --
or perhaps, admiration --
their remarkable knack
for self preservation?
Although they are slow
and will plod at a pace
that never would win them
first place in a race,
at the first sign of trouble –
(a hint or a dash)
their defenses kick in and
they’re gone in a flash.
Sheltered within
where none can touch,
safe from hurt & pain and such.
If only a similar carapace
might the human heart embrace.
